If you’re thinking about booking a boudoir session or have already done so, you may be feeling a bit nervous. That’s totally normal. Most women have never experienced what boudoir is all about. And for those who have, the all encompassing, self-love boudoir experience that WMNKND offers is different than what most boudoir photographers do!
Whatever your situation, you probably have some questions spinning around in your head, some of which you might not feel entirely comfortable asking. And that’s nothing to be ashamed about.
I’m here to support you through every part of the journey and help you feel comfortable and confident – even before you ever step foot in our studio!
So, to ease some of your concerns, I’ve compiled a list of 12 of our most frequently asked questions by women like you!
1. Will you tell me what to do/how to pose?
Don’t worry another second about not knowing how to pose or what your best angles are- because I do! I’ll direct and pose you the whole time, as well as demonstrate each pose. I’ll never leave you wondering what to do. Knowing how to pose is my job-not yours. 😉
2. Do I have to wear lingerie? Will I be naked?
You absolutely don’t have to wear lingerie- and you don’t have to be naked. I’ve had women bring in blazers, jerseys, tee shirts, dresses, hats, jeans, etc. These are your photos, and they can look however you want them to look. I ask in the pre-session questionnaire what your comfortability is with nudity, but remember…you are always welcome to change your mind at any time.

3. Will you share my photos online?
Not unless you want me to! I never assume and always ask for expressed permission. You can allow me to share in whatever way you feel comfortable. Just in the VIP group? Sounds good! Only photos that your face isn’t in? You got it! Want the world to see your photos? You got it! It’s all up to you, babe!
4. Will you edit out my imperfections? I hate my ___. Will you avoid that area?
The best way to answer this question is to ask another – is it part of who you are? I want you to see the beauty in exactly who you are, right now, today. So no, I will not edit out anything that makes you, you. I think it’s important for you to see every part of you and the imperfect goodness of it. Any non-permanent blemishes (i.e., a pimple, bruises, etc.) will be gone, but the stretch marks that came after you carried a human being, the scars that are part of your unique story, and the cellulite (which btw- we ALL have) are a part of you, and I want to celebrate that with you.
I ask every woman that enters the studio what her favorite physical attributes are and which ones she needs to work on loving- because I plan on photographing both. No matter your size, I photograph all women the same because one body isn’t better than the next. The same goes for each part of your body. You don’t have to select photos that feature whatever you’re self-conscious of for your final products. Still, I wouldn’t be doing my job as a body-positive boudoir photographer if I discriminated against it.
5. Do you have payment plans?
Yes! We offer flexible in-house payment plans with no credit check, no interest, and no additional fees. There is a booking fee to schedule your boudoir experience but you absolutely do not have to pay in full for your prints and products. Nearly half of our clients opt for a payment plan! The best part is, you don’t even have to have it paid off before coming into the studio. Reach out today if you’d like to learn more about the flexibility of our payment plans.
6. Is hair and makeup included? What about false lashes?
Hair and makeup are included in our empowering boudoir experience! Hair and makeup is the first step to boost your confidence the day of your session. Kelsey, Kansas City’s best makeup artist, is incredible at what she does and will make sure you feel like a goddess- whether you want to go full glam or opt for a more natural vibe. And yes, lashes are included (strips or individuals depending on the makeup look) !
If you have photos for inspiration, bring them in! But rest assured that if you are like most of our clients and aren’t really sure what makeup look you want, Kelsey will ask you the perfect questions to get a look that you are comfortable with, confident in, and recognize yourself (that’s super important to us!).
7. Do I bring my own lingerie or does WMNKND provide that? Where should I shop for lingerie? How many outfits should I bring?
We have a client closet full of lovely, photogenic lingerie ranging in sizes from xs-5x. This is included with each session, so you can skip spending extra money on lingerie if you’ll never wear it again. But if you’re down with doing a bit of shopping, here are my absolute favorite places to shop for boudoir lingerie.
I recommend sticking to a MAXIMUM of 3 looks for your boudoir experience. If you’re having a hard time narrowing down options, I’m happy to help! Feel free to reach out prior to your session or bring the options you are considering to the studio to get some advice.
8. How should I “groom” before my session?
Do what you usually do. That means if you typically keep body hair, don’t feel like you have to get rid of it because you’ll be on camera. You do you! This is a judgment-free zone. The only thing I would advise against is getting waxed for the first time the day before the session.
9. What kind of print products do you offer?
We offer a variety of albums, loose prints in personalized boxes, wall art, and more! Albums and wall art are definitely our clients’ favorites. I offer professional-quality products that are unmatched any printers consumers have access to to ensure you will be able to look back at your boudoir photos decades from now. 10. Do you offer digitals?
Digitals are not included in the session fee but they are included in all collections! We also have hi res digitals available a la carte. They will be delivered via online gallery (so you get access as soon as they’re ready!). Custom USBs with gift boxes are also available for purchase!
11. I’m freaking out! How can I calm my nervous?
First of all, let me reassure you AGAIN- nerves are NORMAL! Stepping outside of your comfort zone can be scary. But it is also so rewarding. If you are brave enough to do this, what else can you accomplish after this confidence-boosting experience?
Our team does everything we can to minimize your nerves (like a free consultation so we can meet face-to-face before your boudoir experience, pre session resources so you are fully informed + prepared, asking for your consent in the studio, creating a safe space for you to be yourself, etc.), but there are a couple things I recommend you do as well like:
- Ask questions about the parts you are most nervous about
- Read all of the pre session resources so you can prepare and know exactly what to expect
- Tell a supportive friend what you are planning
- Adopt body positive affirmations (and repeat them daily!)
- Know that nerves and excitement often feel very similar
- Reach out and let us know how you are feeling (I’m happy to reassure you!)
- Trust yourself (you want this for a good reason- you DESERVE it!)
12. Where is the studio?
Our empowerment boudoir photography studio is located in historic downtown Leavenworth, KS- just minutes from downtown Kansas City and the airport.
You’ll find our 150-year-old green building at 730 Shawnee St. Leavenworth, KS. If you love the charm of an old building as much as I do, ask me about its history as one of the oldest buildings in the first city in Kansas!
