It’s a little taboo- this idea of having photos taken of yourself half naked (or hey, maybe even baring it all). And this radical notion of loving yourself and appreciating your body? Is that even possible? Is it self-centered? Frivolous or even just the latest trend?
Why are those the thoughts that run through your mind when thinking about loving and accepting yourself as you are? Is it because we are taught at a young age that the only way to get respect is to be modest? That the only right way to have a body is if it’s young, toned, skinny, and yet still have big, perfectly symetrical (lol) boobs and a thicc booty? That you should feel ashamed of your body if it’s anything but that?
THAT is exactly why I specialize in boudoir. Because we’ve been made to believe by multi-billion dollar industries that profit off of our insecurities that we are not good enough just the way we are. You weren’t born hating your body or noticing every little human imperfection. But you probably picked up those messages from before you had any sort of self awareness and have been carrying them around for so long you begin to believe those messages are who you are.
Listen up. Beauty exists in everyone. It exists in freckled faces, booty dimples, cellulite, wrinkles, stretch marks, flat chests, short hair, long hair, no hair, and literally everything in between. The beauty of you is the simple fact that you are quite literally one of a kind.
Think about it this way- diamonds are expensive because they are considered rare and precious. Classic cars are coveted because there aren’t many out there. And you there, reading this blog right now, are ONE-OF-A-KIND. The rarest of them all.
It’s COOL to love who you are. Boudoir is an experience that celebrates that. You being you. It doesn’t discriminate against body types, race, age, etc. It’s for ALL women. It allows you to finally see yourself in a different light. One that isn’t being filtered through that little voice in the back of your head telling you that you aren’t good enough. You can finally see yourself for who you truly are.
Boudoir with WMNKND is a transformative experience- most of the women that come into the studio DON’T have Lizzo-level confidence (yet) and show up the day of the experience with some nerves still. We do everything we can to help you feel prepared and make the most out of your boudoir experience (free consults and pre session resources like prep tips, a Boudoir Style Guide, affirmations, yoga flow video, etc.) but it’s totally normal to be nervous about stepping out of your comfort zone.
These nerves begin to fade away after a makeover (hair and makeup) to enhance their already beautiful natural features. Then when I show our client the back of the camera during the boudoir photo session, you can literally see their body relax. By the time they’ve been treated to a massage and see their boudoir photos before leaving the studio, they forget about those nerves completely.
They are rewarded for stepping out of their comfort zone when they see photo after photo of themselves that they love and don’t immediately see the perceived imperfections that typically jump out at them when they see their reflection. Those imperfections are still there- but they can finally see them as a beautiful part of who they are.
Our clients leave the studio renewed, vibrant, and confident. Ready to take on the world with a figurative middle finger to society, media, and everything else that has been trying to sell her the lie that she is not good enough. With self-love and power radiating from her, she holds her head higher than she did before. And it’s contagious. (Haven’t you heard? Empowered women empower women)
But I’m not here to sell you this idea that every woman has an epiphany during her session. Some take a little more time. This may be the first time you’ve dipped your toes into the radical notion of loving yourself. And maybe you leave the studio surprised that you were able to pick more than a couple photos that you like of yourself.
You talked a lot about you- who you are, where you come from, what you are passionate about. You were pampered by the WMNKND team and felt seen as an individually unique human being for the first time in a long time. We planted a seed. A seed that will continue to grow long after you leave the studio.
This is an experience specifically for women to become confident in who they are- mind, body, and spirit. It’s for celebrating your individuality. It’s for empowering you to be you. To know that you are exactly who you are meant to be- a powerful force of a woman that can face this world and not doubt her worth.
Because that woman ^ is unstoppable. She will change the world.
For me, boudoir photography is a celebration of your body and everything that makes you, you. I take pride in being able to help show women how to celebrate their bodies, their battles and their victories they’ve been through. Let me show you the beauty in who you are. Let me help remind you how to love and be proud yourself.
