Empowered Motherhood | Jacki’s WMNKND Experience

Jacki, thank you for taking the time to share a bit about your session experience! I think these are so helpful for new clients or people curious about boudoir to read from your point of view.

I want to start by asking you about yourself! Would you share a bit about you?

I am a creative with a nomadic heart. I derive joy from the written word, art, and travel. I am an educator who advocates for each student’s inherent worth, a coach who teaches others to never apologize for existing and learning. My daughter is my literal dream come true, and my favorite people are the strong women who have my back – unflinchingly.

I love that. I’d love to hear a little bit about why you chose to book a session. What inspired you?

I wanted to feel, look, experience myself the way I carry myself and how the people closest to me view me – as an absolute force, self-assured, and powerful. Because sometimes it’s hard to remember and live, especially being a full-time single mom to a toddler and pouring so much of myself into my job when it isn’t as fulfilling as I would like. I wanted this experience to be about me, rather than a version of me I have to be for others. I haven’t seen myself as sexy for a very long time, especially with everything involved with motherhood and a postpartum body, and I wanted to change that. I also have some body dysmorphia, and I want to be courageous enough to see myself through someone else’s lens.

The changes our bodies go through can definitely influence how we feel about ourselves. I love that you wanted to challenge yourself to see the truth of your beauty from my perspective. I’m curious, what prompted you to choose a boudoir session to take that step?

I saw some dear friends do it and heard such wonderful things. I’d always been curious, but never thought I was deserving or confident enough to have a boudoir session, especially since I’m not in a relationship.

The fact that you felt that way and chose to step into embodiment anyways is so amazing. Would you share with me any concerns you had about doing a session?

I was concerned I’d feel embarrassed, anxious, and unworthy. That I wouldn’t “fit” what boudoir was “supposed” to be. That I wasn’t sexy. Essentially, that all my worst fears and negative self talk would be present on the camera.

That is so relatable, especially with the more common messaging amongst boudoir photographers of what their client “should” look like. What made you ultimately choose to work with WMNKND?

I chose WMNKND because I had met Mik on a women’s retreat to Costa Rica. I liked that I KNEW my photographer rather than it being a first time deep dive with someone new. I also really appreciate Mik’s messaging and vision.

Costa Rica was such an amazing trip. I loved being there and meeting you and it was seriously an honor that you felt safe and chose to travel to KC for your session. I’d love to hear from your perspective what it was like working with the WMNKND team.

I never once felt any of the concerns listed above during my experience. I was so excited the entire time! I had so much fun, was always comfortable, and really pleased to have creative control of my vision with posing and stylistic guidance from the team. It was ME, and it felt so good!

Honestly, that’s the BEST feedback I could get!! Thank you so much for stepping into a place of empowerment with us, it was a dream to work with you. Last question. If you could, what would you share with anyone considering booking a session for themselves?

Oh my gosh, do it! I felt so completely empowered, and I would want every person to be able to experience that if they are able.

A text message from a happy client reads, "The picture you took where I'm on the floor with the strappy number and smiling is one of my favorites. I keep going back to it and loving the person I see. Thank you so much for capturing that."

Thank you so much, again, for being brave and taking a chance on yourself. I am so grateful to have been able to meet you and work with you and my hope for you is that you carry that feeling of empowerment with you always.
